Each year, as part of the Association’s contribution to the banding movement, support is offered to selected projects:

Boobs 4 Brass Charity - Butlins Mineworkers Contest 2010
This coming year sees the collaboration of the Boobs & Brass Band, the all female brass band, and The Association of Band Traders at the featured fund-raising event Brass 4 Boobs.  Aimed at raising the awareness of breast cancer and to continue to raise much needed funds for the breast cancer campaign.

To date, the Boobs & Brass Band have raised over £33,000 for this worthy cause, no mean achievement!

To build on this fund-raising achievement, the Brass 4 Boobs campaign will culminate with 'Boob Blow 2010' taking place at the Butlins Mineworkers Open Brass Band Festival on Saturday 23rd January 2010 in Skegness at 7.00 pm.

This inspirational playing session is open to all female players who wish to have some banding fun whilst helping to support this worthy charity that is close to so many people's hearts.

To become part of this activity please download the registration form, complete and send it with the very modest registration fee of £2.50 (cheques, postal orders etc. made payable to BOOBS & BRASS) to either a Boobs & Brass Band representative or to the contact address indicated on the registration form.  Further information about the Brass and Boobs Band this charitable event can be found at www.boobsandbrass.com.

The NYBB of GB and NCBB of GB 2009
The Butlins contest of 2009 saw the Association turn its charitable focus to supporting these two youth music organisations - The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and the National Children's Band of Great Britain.

Raffle tickets were sold throughout weekend to raise funds and a special stand within the Trading Village enabled the organisations to promote the special work they carry out in providing musical opportunities for youngsters.

Further information about both these organisations can be found at their own website at http://www.nybb.org.uk.

The Brass Band Archive 2008
The Butlins contest of 2008 saw the Association supporting a website project for The Brass Band Archive.  This priceless collection of brass banding memorabilia, music, and recordings has been nurtured and developed by its curators for many years.  For a vast number of brass banders around the world, access and awareness of this unparalleled collection was limited only to visits to their offices in Wigan.

To enable broader awareness of the work and the immense collection of items held in honour of banding, it was felt that the archive needed some 21st Century technology to help 'spread the word' about its existence.  A website to link it with the rest of the world, provide access to its library lists and to enable The Brass Band Archive to link with possible future contributors to the collection.

The required money was successfully raised and the website created by Just Select Ltd at www.brassbandarchive.com.  The site has now been established for 18 months and visited by thousands of interested parties.  As a further boost to its future development, the website continues to be maintained by Just Select Ltd free of charge.  Clair Tomalin, MD of Just Select, commented "I have been involved with brass banding for over 30 years now and it give me great pleasure to be able to support this invaluable organisation through my company.  By taking away the financial burden normally associated with the development of an ever evolving website, I feel that I am able to positively contribute to the protection and promotion of our brass band heritage."

Brighouse Hymn Tune and March Contest

The first project supported by the Association was the Brighouse Hymn Tune and March Contest which was recently organised by Kirklees Music in their hometown of Brighouse.  To help promote youth and music, the members of the Association of Band Traders agreed to sponsor the youth section of the competition and donate financial gifts in recognition of the hard work involved in bringing a youth band to competition standard.

Brass Band Aid - 2006/07
The Association of Brass Band Traders have been helping raise funds for Brass Band Aid and World Vision.

In addition to offering an important service for band lovers at brass band contests through their trade-stands, the Association of Band Traders is also showing itself to be fully aware of issues from a wider field.

2006 has seen the Association adopt Brass Band Aid as one of their chosen charities and at the Butlins Mineworkers Brass Band Festival they raised £750 for the charity through a special prize draw.  The winner, Mr R Whitehead will enjoy a complimentary Gold Level apartment at next year's event!
